Happy Navaratri - Dasara

Happy Navaratri to all my friends.

I was planning to make some cards for the festive seasons , Navaratri and Deepavali. I thought of finishing this work , by starting of Navaratri. But 3 days back, my mother is hospitalised, in my native place. So could not complete anything.  Now she is  recovering , but I'm worried about her.

Now its auspicious occasion of Navaratri for Hindus. Though its celebrated in every parts of India, with different styles,  Navaratri reminds, Durga puja of West Bengal, Dnadiya of Gujarat and of course Mysore Dasara. I wish all my friends a very happy navaratri.

This card is made using parchment. This is very beautiful and popular paper craft. I'm still practicing this art. There are several mistakes in this card. I'm sending this to my mother. Mother, embraces us forgiving all our mistakes. She will never expect anything from children. Nothing can be compared with her love and affection.

On this auspicious occasion, Praying Maa Durga, mother of Universe to forgive all our sins.

Wishing all my friends, very happy Navaratri. May , Maa Durga ,fulfill all your wishes.

Introducing an Artist- Mrinal

Recently could not share anything about my works. Nothing is completed. Making an applique work on saree with Kalamkari designs ,( hope Kalamkari applique work won't go out of fashion , by the time I finish this :-) ) Making some cards using quilling and parchment, for the coming festive season and birthdays, some more  screen printing orders are pending -as usual :-). As promised , I will share about , my experience with arts and crafts, with you, friends, but need some time.

As I've said, in this blog, I will not only share about my work , also my experience with arts and crafts. I will share about my craft Gurus, from whom I've learnt different kinds of arts and crafts; my collection of Kumkuma Bharanis(small container used to store vermilion or sindhoor) and many more craft items etc, etc.

Now I don't want to disappoint you. Introducing a skilled artist. Please see his very simple work (sorry, simple to him, not to me at least :-)) which he completed in 15-20 minutes, on a small piece of paper.

Have a look

I know, unknowingly you said  wow!!! I completely agree with you. Its really amazing.  You  are curious to know about the artist. You can see his signature , Mrinal Chatterjee.
Mrinal, was our team member. I did not know, he is such a good artist. Look at the sketch, its perfect. And its done on a small piece of paper, using a ballpoint pen. Each line is perfect. He took only 15-20 mins to draw this. I was so happy to see this.

Have a closer look :
Look at the lady, carrying the water in the pot, below see her reflection in the water. At the right side, can you see the long trees? everything looks so real!
The boat and boatman:
Mrinal is a painter also. I always wondered , if with a pen he can draw a sketch like this, imagine the magic he will create on canvas, with colours and brush!
I came to know about his art, at the end of his tenure with us. Otherwise I would have learnt something about this art, from him. Hoping to learn in future from him.
Thanks Mrinal!
Friends, I'm planning to frame this or shall I laminate this ? Please suggest. Shortly,I will, definitely share about my works.

Dress Design- Birthday Gift

This is my gift to my friend on her birthday.
I was thinking of designing a dress for her. Her favourite color is pink , thought of designing something in pink. But she looks good in cream color( according to her hubby ). At one moment thought of designing something in blue. Then finally decided to design in combination of cream and pink.
The cloth selected is cotton silk , cream color for the top and pink for the bottom. Before designing thought several times on the color and cloth. Because she likes simple designs, I had to be very careful selecting the cloth. I selected cotton silk, since that is not flashy and still looks elegant.

Then selected , a pink cloth for yoke and the design. Attached a heart shaped yoke and the border at the bottom with a very thin lace in gold color along the border and yoke. While selecting kundan also I was very careful. Since she likes simple designs, I didn't  go for big kumdans. Attached very small kumdans in self color and antique gold  color. Printed paisley designs on the border and in centre. Thought of going for small motifs all over the body, but dropped the idea again, thinking she might not like too many motifs. Similarly designed the sleeves .

Duppata selection was easy, as I had decided to go for crushed one.
In my opinion, any dress will be incomplete without the accessories. So giving her a set of bangles in pink, cream and
dull gold combination, which  perfectly matches the dress.

Birthday wish without a card!!! Not possible. So made a card using quilling.

With this small gift, wishing my Friend A Very Happy Birthday!

Red Plain silk saree with peacock motifs

There is nothing much to write about this. The client had given, plain red silk saree. Its easy to design plain saree. The client wanted peacock or paisley design. I have the peacock designs in different sizes. So printed small motifs as border and big sized peacock motifs  and paisley motifs  on the pallu.
